Contract Agreement Signed to Construct Roads with over 2.4 billion Birr

Contract agreements were signed here Thursday to construct 260km roads with over 2.4 billion Birr. The roads linking Ethiopia with neighbouring countries, Sudan, South Sudan and Kenya, will be constructed in Oromia, Gambella and South Ethiopia Peoples' States. The road projects include, Dima-Raad, Mega-Moyale and Turmi-Namraputh. Accordingly, the 60km Dima-Raad road in Gambella and South Ethiopia Peoples State will be upgraded to asphalt concrete level with over 536 million Birr. Upgrading of the road will be completed within two years and a half. The Ethiopian government will cover the cost for upgrading of the road. CGC Overseas Construction Group Co. Ltd will upgrade the road. The 91km Turmi-Namraputh gravel road in South Ethiopia Peoples' State will also be upgraded to asphalt level by the stated company with over 794.8 million Birr. The Ethiopian government will cover the total cost for upgrading of the road, which will be completed within three years. The 109km Mega-Moyale road, which is part of the Mombasa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa road corridor, will be upgraded to asphalt concrete level. The road located in Oromia State will be upgraded with over one billion Birr by JMC Projects (India) Ltd. Some 84 per cent of the cost for upgrading of the road will be secured in loan from the African Development Bank while the Ethiopian government covers the balance. Upgrading of the road will be finalized within three years. The roads will link Ethiopia with neighbouring countries Director-General of the Ethiopian Roads Authority, Zaid Woldegebriel, General Manager of CGC Overseas Construction Group Co. Ltd. Gao Lei and Vice President, International Business of JMC Projects (India)Ltd, Manmohan Sawhney signed the contract agreements. Zaid on the occasion expressed belief that the contractors will finalize construction of quality roads due schedule. The contractors on their parts said the companies will ensure quality in construction of the roads.
