About ZIAS AE

Thank you for your interest in ZIAS AE, a leading Architecture Engineering, and Construction Management company with Offices in Reston, Virginia and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We were established in 2006 and have since been providing A/E and Construction Management services to the American and African markets. We currently have a staff of 75 professionals in various fields including Engineers, Architects, quantity surveyors, project managers and administration personnel. We are licensed to practice Architecture and Engineering in different states in the USA. We are registered with authorities in Ethiopia as a "Category 1 Consulting Architecture and Engineering firm” allowing us to handle projects of any size.

We aim to provide complete and quality service by assembling a team of qualified professionals in the industry. We have special working relationship with National Consultants of Ethiopia which we occasionally team up to provide quality service to our clients.

Services

Architecture

Our Architecture Group was established together with the establishment of the company. The leader of the group since its inception has been Mr. Daniel Assefa, AIA. Mr. Assefa holds a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Virginia Tech and is a registered Architect in different states in the United States. He is also a registered professional Architect in Ethiopia

The Architecture group at ZIAS AE enjoys an excellent reputation for the Architectural designs it produces. Such designs include the 34 story Al Amoudi Tower in Addis Ababa, the 18 story Empire Real Estate Luxury Condos in Addis Ababa, The National reference Laboratory in Maputo, Mozambique, the 10 Story Freedom Real Estate Luxury Condos, in Addis Ababa the KK Tower in Addis Ababa, the Regional Laboratories in Adama and Bahir Dar, Ethiopia and many more.

Our group’s rich experience and the level of expertise of our professionals has allowed us to provide our clients with design solutions that are functional, economical and aesthetically pleasing.

Structures

ZIAS AE has been providing Structural Engineering Services since its inception. Our group is responsible for the design of numerous medium and high rise buildings and other complicated structures in Addis Ababa including the 37story Al Amoudi Tower, the 20 story KK Tower, The 20 Story MTSE Multipurpose Building, the 18 Story Empire Real Estate Building and many more.

Our group in now led by Mr. Dereje Assefa, a Professional Structural Engineer with board certifications in various states in the US and in Ethiopia. He has a Master of Engineering Degree in High Performance structures from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has rich experience in the analysis and design of complicated structural systems.

Our group is up to date with today’s cutting edge technology in the analysis and design of structures. We have Structural Engineers in our group who are experts in structural analysis software including SAP2000 ETABS, Safe and STAAD Pro. We have considerable experience in Finite Element modeling and analysis.

Electrical Engineering

Our Electrical Design Work is done by our longtime associate FASTEK Consult. Together, we have designed the electrical systems including power, lighting, telecommunications and data for a considerable number of buildings in Addis, including the Al Amoudi Tower in Addis Ababa.

Our Electrical Design group is led by Mr. Fissehaie Kelati, a registered Professional Electrical Engineer and also member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services (UK).

Mechanical Engineering (Sanitary Engineering)

We provide Mechanical and plumbing design works through our associate SANMECH Consult. Together, we have designed the plumbing and HVAC system, for a considerable number of buildings, including the Al Amoudi Tower. Our Mechanical Engineering group is led by Ato Worede Melaku, a registered Professional Sanitary and Mechanical Engineer, educated in Finland with experience in the field spanning many decades.

Contract Administration

Effective Contract Administration is essential to the success of a construction project. The quality and completeness of the Contract Documents as well as the proper adherence to proven Contract Administration procedures will ultimately result in considerable savings to a client.

We at ZIAS AE appreciate the importance of Contract Administration. The contract documents in our office including drawings, specifications and bill of quantities are prepared by very well experienced professionals. We prepare our technical specifications in the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) formats. We use Contract Administration forms prepared by the CSI as well as the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Our contract administration department has been involved in leadership positions for some of the largest and high profile projects in Ethiopia.
