Raas Architects was established in September 2004 by architect Rahel Shawl who had previously worked in the offices of Abba Architects as partner and architect since January 1992. Although Rahel has worked on big projects in her involvement with Abba Architects for 12 years, in the last 5 years, with Raas Architects she has engaged fully in the architectural design and supervision works of various embassy buildings, offices, commercial, industrial, residential projects in Addis Ababa and other parts of Ethiopia.

Vision: - In the design philosophy of Raas Architects, it is strongly believed that there has to be complete collaboration between the architect, the client and later on the contractor both during the design and implementation phases for the building work to be successful. The office is committed to designing modern buildings using vernacular ideas and building materials which are very much Ethiopian and at the same time integrating modern philosophies creating buildings that are fit for purpose both on the inside of the building projects and the outside aesthetics and detailing.

Past Performance:- by itself and/or by collaborating with other similar international architectural offices has completed the design of several buildings like Embassy Buildings, Schools, Hospitals and Clinics, Apartments, Resort Hotels and smaller projects like interior designs, modifications and villas. Although most of these projects have been done in Addis Ababa, some of them have been built in other parts of Ethiopia.

Current Projects:-is currently working on a number of local and international architectural projects including the Embassy of Ireland in Addis Ababa, Resorts and Hotels in Awassa (southern part of Ethiopia), Hospital for Fistula patients in the South Western part of Ethiopia, Shola apartments and mixed use building, Ethiopian Peace Support Operations in Addis Ababa, having recently completed the offices for the New British Council Library.

Facility: - The Office is fully computerized and ready for use of latest AutoCAD, Archicad 12 for teamwork for all cad works with the help of experienced architects and building engineers. The principal architect has above 18 years of experience in the design and supervision of architectural works. The office staff includes 4 graduate and junior architects, 3 engineers and engineering aids, 2 draftsmen, and 4 experienced administration and financial people.
