Traditional Gold Miners Supply 2,541 kg Gold To NBE
Traditional gold miners have supplied 2,541 kg of gold to the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) in the first four months of this fiscal year, the Ministry of Mines (MoM) said.
Ministry Public Relations Head, Bacha Faji, told WIC recently that the gold was supplied by miners in Tigray, Oromia, Benishangul Gumuz, SNNP and Gambella regional states.
Over 100 million US dollars was obtained from the gold supplied to the bank, he said. According to him, the miners failed to attain their target of supplying 3,600 kg gold.
Bacha said the government has been providing support to traditional gold miners in an effort to increase exports.
The Ministry of Mines has set a plan to collect 18,000 kilograms of gold from the over 500 tradition gold miners in the aforementioned regional states this fiscal year, it was learnt.
