Tendaho Sugar Plant To Start Production In February
The Tendaho Sugar Factory will start first round production in the coming February, Sugar Production Team Leader of the project Engineer Tesfa Asefa said.
The factory, in its first trial year of production, has planned to produce 123,000 tons of sugar annually, which would cover the domestic demand used to be imported from oversea countries.
Up on completion, the factory would have the capacity to grind 26,000 tons of sugar cane per day; and it is expected to grind 12,000 tons in the first round.
The factory is one its kind in its production capacity in the country so far; and has also another advantage as it would generate power as well. It was said the factory will use 30MW for itself from a total of 120MW it generates and add the rest to the national grid.
Sugar Corporation Corporate Affairs Director Zemedkum Tekle said the launch of Tendaho Sugar Plant only will stabilize sugar demand in the country. Fincha, Wenji Shoa and Metehara Sugar factories will also have huge input by providing 425,000 tons of sugar, when they begin production with their improved capacity.
The sugar plant, during its production process, has created job opportunity for 7,000 citizens. The location of the factory –660km far from the capital, and near to port makes it close to oversea market.
The Tendaho sugar plant will have the capacity to produce 619 thousand quintals of sugar every year when fully gets into production after two years.
