Panel Discusses TVET Challenge, Opportunities
The Technical and Vocational Education Agency and stakeholders discussed challenges, success and opportunities of TVETs at City Administration Hall here yesterday, EH reported.
Opening the panel , Deputy Mayor Abate Setotaw said that since technical and vocational training centres are bases for future industrialists, such discussion with stakeholders is crucial.
According to him, technical and vocational centres have a vital role in supporting the Renaissance journey. “This is particularly true in producing skilled manpower needed for the industrial sector.”
He also said TVETs have unquestionable role in the transfer and adoption of technology for the national economy.
Technical and Vocational Education Training Agency Director Zeru Sumur also said that though there are challenges, TVETs are becoming centre of excellence in providing skilled manpower to the industrial sector. Learning from previous experiences , TVETs have focused on market-oriented training, he added.
According to him, although there are positive achievements in technology adoption, there is still a challenge in codding and transferring them to practitioners.
He also said the role of private vocational training centres in the manufacturing sector is still not satisfactory.
