Gov’t, People Of Gambella Regional State Collect Over 20 mln Birr For GRD
The government and people of the Gambella regional state collected over 20 million birr in the first round for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
While presenting a report on the development activities being carried out by the people and the government yesterday, deputy chief administrator of the regional state, Eng. Ulero Opiyew, said efforts are underway to collect 10 million birr for the dam in the second round.
Resource Mobilization Director at the Office of National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam, Tagel Kenubh, on the occasion praised efforts of the residents to put their mark on the dam.
Pastoralists and semi-pastoralists residing in the regional state also contributed 105 live animals worth half a million birr for the construction of the dam.
In a related development, employees at the finance and economic development bureau of the regional state contributed 370, 575 birr for the dam in the first round. They also pledged to contribute 517, 294 birr in the second round.
