የአገሪቱን ኢኮኖሚ ወደ ኢንዱስትሪ መርነት ለመቀየር ወሳኝ ድርሻ ካላቸው ፕሮጀክቶች አንዱ የኦሞ ሸለቆን ተከትሎ በደቡብ ክልል በወላይታና ዳውሮ ዞኖች ውስጥ እየተገነባ ያለው የጊቤ ሦስት የውሃ ኃይል ማመንጫ ፕሮጀክት ይገኝበታል። ፕሮጀክቱ ከአዲስ አበባ ከተማ በ400ኪሎ ሜትር ርቀት ላይ የሚገኝ ሲሆን፣ከአምስት ዓመታት በላይ በግንባታ ላይ ይገኛል።1ሺህ870 ሜጋ ዋት የማመንጨት አቅም ያለው ፕሮጀክት እስካሁንም 65ከመቶ የሚሆነው ሥራው ተጠናቋል። ጠቅላላ ወጪው 32ቢሊዮን ብር የሆነው ፕሮጀክት፣ ከቻይና መንግሥት ከተገኘው 500ሚሊዮን ዶላር ብድር ውጭ ግንባታው የሚካሄደው ከመንግሥት በሚመደብ በጀት መሆኑን የሚኒስቴሩ መረጃ ያመለክታል::
