Construction of Tana Beles Integrated Sugar Dev’t Project Progressing well

Construction of the Tana Beles Integrated Sugar Development Project launched in Jawi Woreda of Amhara State is well in progress with over 30 billion Birr allocated by the government.

 Project General Manager, Melke Tadesse said so far construction of irrigation canal, residential quarters and factory, among others is well underway.

Melke said the project is being carried out on 75,000 hectares of land adjoining the Amhara and Benshangul Gumuz regional states. Construction of three large sugar factories is also launched, he said.

Manager of Tana Beles Project with the Amhara State Water Works Construction Enterprise, Engineer Fikre Berhanu for his part said the three sugar factories will have capacity to produce 242,000 tons of sugar annually.

Eng. Fikre said construction of two of the factories will be completed in 2007E.C. as per the Growth and Transformation Plan.
