City Contributes Over 335 mln. Birr To GRD Project

The Addis Ababa City Administration has announced that it has collected over 335 million birr for the realization of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Project. The figure does not include the pledge and bond purchase by investors and huge firms, EH reported.

Opening Administration Grand Renaissance Dam Project Public Participation Coordination Council 2nd regular meeting last Friday, City Deputy Mayor and Council Chairman Abate Setotaw said that besides showing high political commitment and support to the government, the public can press his imprint by contributing money to the realization of the Dam through bond purchase and grant.

According to Sitotaw, the City Administration has collected 327,946,134.41 birr over the past two years. In addition, 7.8 million birr has been collected during the last six months. The Deputy Mayor also said the Administration has been working aggressively to collect pledges made by various investors and business firms.

According to a document presented by Yonas Asnake, Addis Ababa GRD Public Mobilization Coordination Head also said all segments of the society has been providing various assistance for the realization of the dam. Up to last Ethiopian fiscal year, civil servants have contributed over 109 million birr and 5.7 million birr over the past six months, he added.

Yonas further indicated that the city is carrying out various activities to collect over 250 million birr this budget year. This does not include volunteers knowledge and other assistance.
