The Ministry of Industry and Allanasons Ltd, India's largest exporter of processed food products, signed an agreement that enables the latter to build a meat processing plant at a cost of 371 million birr.
The agreement was signed here on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 by Dr Meberatu Melese, Industry State Minister, and Aman R. Kahan, representative of the group.
The plant would help to improve Ethiopia’s meat export, thus assisting the efforts to attain the meat export target set in the GTP, Dr Meberatu was quoted in the report having said on the occasion.
It would also enable the pastoral community to effectively benefit from their animal resources as well as it allows leather industries to get hides and skins reliably, he said.
In addition to promoting technology transfer, the plant to be built on 75 hectares of land around Zeway, Oromia Regional State, will create jobs for several residents of the area, he added.
Allana decided to build the plant here taking into account Ethiopia’s livestock potential and its favorable climate, Aman R Kahan, representative of the group said.
According to WIC, the company would commence exporting meat by erecting the plant soon.
