Administration Working To Make Dire Dawa A Center Of Trade, Industry

The Dire Dawa city administration said it is working to make the city a center of service, trade and industry.

Mayor of the city, Ased Ziad, told journalists here recently that due attention was given to the industrial sector so as to attain the vision of the administration.

The mayor added that the efforts being made to transform the city from the center of contraband trade to center of industry is bearing fruit.

Some 70 medium and heavy industries built in the city are currently engaged in the production of various materials, including export goods, thereby generating foreign exchange for the country, he said.

He said several local and foreign investors have been engaged in various investment sectors at the industrial zones established during the past six years.

Taking into consideration the proximity of the city to ports and the prevailing durable peace as well as the availability of skilled manpower, infrastructural facilities and incentives are attracting foreign and Ethiopian Diaspora investors, he said.

The administration, in partnership with the federal government, is preparing 3,200 hectares of land for industrial zone in order to attain its vision, Ased indicated.
