The construction sector in Ethiopia has been growing at an unprecedented rate during the past few years.
Some of the reasons for this are the priorities given by the government to develop and strengthen the infrastructure of the country as well as the involvement of the private sector and non-governmental organizations in the sector.
Accordingly, to promote what has been achieved by the construction sector so far, the Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia (CCAE), which has more than 1,500 members, is organizing the 10th International Construction Exhibition dubbed “Ethio-Con 2013” at the Addis Ababa Exhibition and Market Development Center, in association with Exhibiz & Promotions, held from Sept. 19th to the 23rd. The event includes panel discussions and a competition of technical skills. The participation of foreign firms from Italy, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, China, Sudan, South Africa and Australia, is expected, among many others. Speaking during the opening ceremony, Hailemeskel Teferra, State minister of Urban Development and Construction said: “The industry has created 3.9 million jobs, out of which 1.5 million are in the service sector.” He further explained that the construction sector has grown by 12 percent.
