Background

Gift Trading Private Limited Company is one of the reputed trading companies in Ethiopia. Established by Ato Gebreyesus Igata, as its foundingentrepreneur who has developed his business skills early in his childhood. He started his busi­ness as a vendor in the informal sector and in 1974 he opened a souvenir shop located in Merkato shopping hall commonly called Adarash at shop No.17 with a capital of 1,000ETB (USD 483). It was started with savior then diversified to cosmetics, children’s, ladies footwear and hand bags. Within two years of establishment  the shop was transformed into one of the best bou­tiques of the city selling high quality imported readymade clothes stocking  luxury collection and high quality wears from European metropolis like Rome and London. In 1984 with his keen interest of exploring new business opportunities, Ato Ge­breyesus embarked on importing used trucks from Italy later entered in to public and freight transport services. In 1989 he became a full-fledged importer and distributor of general merchandize and con­sumer goods. He also became commission agent for major foreign suppliers and manufacturers. At last he decided to change the status of his business and from sole proprietorship to private limited company. Thus in 1990 the GIFT Trad­ing Private Limited Company was founded with a total capital of 350,000 ETB. And become the parent company for all other companies including gift real estate. The name GIFT is an acronym which stands for Gebereyesus Igata Family Trading. In recent years, Gift trading Co. alone made an annual turnover of USD 10,000,000 from its merchandise trade and export business.

In the export business Gift Trading is used to export agricultural products such as sesame seeds to Middle East, China, India and Europe for the past several years. Further, Gift Trading is representing oversea com­panies in Ethiopian market, especially in big tenders, for supply of Asphalt Bitumen, Re-enforcement bars, UPVC chemicals, Pumps, Generators….etc.

Resources and Facilities

Gift Trading is a well-established company equipped with all necessary resources and facilities needed to successfully execute its operations. It is now a company with a strong financial capital, quali­fied and experienced employees, full-fledged warehouse, extensive sales outlets and adequate delivery and transport trucks and vehicles.

Gift Trading has four large warehouses with a total holding capacity of 8633m3. In addition to that the company has three branches and 18 representatives strate­gically located in different parts of the county pro-viding it with a network of sales outlets giving access to the substantial proportion of the country’s major markets

Gift Trading is also engaged in Real estate’s building and renting commercial buildings. So far the company has been a sole distributor and representativeof manufacturers from Italy, USA, UK, South Korea, Oman, Taiwan, South Africa, Indonesia, China and Turkey.

Distribution Network

Gift Trading has got its main office in Addis Ababa/Debrezeit road with six branch offices and a network of sales representatives throughout the coun­try. One of its main branches being in Merkato, the main distribution cen­ter for local and imported goods for Addis Ababa and the whole country.

It has also acquired outlets in two other strategic locations of Addis Ababa in Tekelhaimanot and around Hayahulet Mazoria. Its up-country branches include at Nazareth (100kms), Jimma (346 km's), Shashemene 250kms) away from Addis Ababa. It also works through its distribution agents in Dire Dawa, Bahir Dar, Mekele and Dese.

In addition, the company also has three large warehouses with a net holding capacity of 8633 m3 at its disposal.
