These guidelines focus on rural and urban water supply projects for human needs. They do not cover water supply for agriculture, livestock, forestry or fisheries, as this issue is discussed in the other sectoral guidelines such as Irrigation, Livestock and Rangeland Management, Forestry and Fisheries.

These guidelines highlight major issues and potential impacts that should be taken into account during the preparation and assessment phases. The appropriate enhancement and mitigation measures should be integrated as early as possible, preferably in the project design.

Published on: Fri, 2013-03-01 14:53

Mines and petroleum production bring prosperity to a country, in particular, to the area in which they are established. One mine creates about three direct jobs:

2, for service giving organizations, and,

3, for construction industries

It can also create indirect jobs for financial institutions and others. However, mines and petroleum production activities are bound to have environmental impacts.

These guidelines cover all types of irrigation projects and consider the various steps of the water cycle, including water harvesting, storage, conveyance, on-farm distribution and drainage. However, they do not address issues related to dams and reservoirs although such infrastructures are sometimes required to supply irrigation water.

Published on: Fri, 2013-03-01 14:03
  1. Household wastes are not normally regarded as hazardous, since they consist almost entirely of materials, which have been handled by individuals before being discarded. However, such wastes can be extremely variable in their composition, depending to a large extent on the lifestyle of the generator. For example, it can be expected that in the countries where almost everything bought is associated with wrapping materials, the packaging waste very often comprises a significant part of household waste.
